Description

Alaska Clean Seas (ACS) conducted an International Oil and Ice Workshop April 7-10, 2000 in Anchorage, AK. The workshop assembled experts on oil fate and behavior, Arctic oil spill response, ice environments, and Arctic oilfield development to present the leading edge technologies in a seminar and field setting. Conducting the workshop in the operating oilfields on the Alaskan North Slope added a level of realism to the key topics that cannot be duplicated elsewhere. The workshop provided a forum to showcase the results of MMS's Arctic oil spill response research. It provided an international forum for presentation and discussion of key environmental, operational and logistical topics associated with oil exploration and development in ice prone environments. It delivered state of the art information on a variety of oil and ice related topics to an international audience. The proceedings will guide future Arctic oil spill response research and development programs.

Latest progress update

The workshop was successfully completed with more than 225 attendees from the U.S., Canada, Norway, Russia, Japan and several other countries. The current state of the art in Arctic spill response was presented at the conference. The conference proceedings are complete and have been distributed.
