Description

The purpose of this research is to build upon the knowledge gained from freeze-up studies conducted since 2009 and to build upon the information acquired during the 2017 break-up study, which BSEE will make publicly available.  This research will provide an understanding of the events which occur during freeze-up and break-up under present-day conditions and will provide the BSEE Alaska OCS Region with observations and analyses of the annual freeze-up and break-up of Arctic sea ice in the US Beaufort and Chukchi Seas to help inform decisions regarding the development of energy and mineral resources.
