BSEE Deputy Director Margaret Schneider and Other BSEE Leaders to Attend 2014 International Oil Spill Conference

Next week, BSEE Deputy Director Margaret Schneider will be joined by BSEE Chief of Oil Spill Response David Moore and other BSEE leaders at the 2014 International Oil Spill Conference (IOSC) in Savannah, Ga. The conference, held every two years, brings together leaders from around the world to exchange information and ideas dealing with spill prevention, planning, preparedness, response, restoration and research. This year, conference attendees will view an on-water and aerial spill response demonstration hosted by BSEE. The bureau will also have a booth open for attendees to visit and discuss career opportunities and offshore spill prevention. Here are some highlights of BSEE activities at IOSC:

Tuesday, May 6, 2014, 3:00-4:30 pm Session 7

BSEE Chief of Oil Spill Response David Moore will chair a panel discussion on regulatory and planning impacts from the Deepwater Horizon.

Wednesday, May 7, 2014, 8:00-9:30 am Session 13

Ohmsett Manager Paul Meyer will be part of a discussion on cutting edge research. Paul will discuss the bureau's extensive research program at Ohmsett, National Oil Spill Response Research & Renewable Energy Test Facility. Ohmsett is where many of today’s commercially available oil spill cleanup products have been tested. Government agencies including the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy as well as private industry and oil spill response organizations from around the world train their emergency response personnel with real oil and their own equipment at BSEE's Ohmsett facility in Leonardo, N.J.

John Caplis of BSEE's Oil Spill Response Division will chair a panel discussion on offshore facility operations and planning.

Wednesday, May 7, 2014, 5:00-6:30 pm

BSEE will host an on-water and aerial spill response demonstration.

BSEE Deputy Chief of Oil Spill Response Kelly Schnapp will be part of a panel discussion on spill prevention, preparedness and response tools and techniques.
