BSEE’s Mike Conner Heritage Award at Offshore Technology Conference

HOUSTON –BSEE’s Mike Conner will be honored by the Offshore Technology Conference Awards Committee with the Heritage Award May 2, in recognition of his outstanding, significant and unique achievements and extensive contributions to the offshore oil and gas industry, specifically his balanced and logical approach to deepwater and subsea technology. Each year, the OTC Awards Committee recognizes major technological, humanitarian, environmental, and leadership contributions to the industry. The Heritage Award will be presented to Conner during an awards luncheon May 2, 12:00-2:00 CST at NRG Center.

“When I think of someone who epitomizes BSEE’s philosophy of ensuring the safety of offshore oil and gas operations, I think of Mike Conner,” said Lars Herbst, BSEE’s Gulf of Mexico Region director. “From an idea’s inception to its final design and usage, he engages industry with consistent, analytical and thorough feedback.”

His achievement is demonstrated through his leadership and partnership with industry centered on the common goals of safety and environmental protection and his approach to regulating firsts in deepwater and subsea technology with reasonable and repeatable processes.

Conner has accumulated an immense catalog of direct impact on approval of deepwater projects in the Gulf of Mexico.  Throughout his career, he has had a major contribution to more than  300 - Deepwater Projects and Deepwater Operations Plans (DWOPs) for 33New Deepwater Production Facilities.  

Conner has been with the bureau 25 years, starting his federal career as a Pipeline Engineer in 1992.  He was appointed Section Chief of the Technical Assessment and Operations Support Section, Field Operations, Gulf of Mexico Region on January 15, 2005. 

Prior to beginning his work in the petroleum industry, Conner served in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant as an Infantry Platoon Leader in Viet Nam. He has worked in the petroleum industry since 1970 serving in various positions such as Production Engineer, manager of various research projects, and owner and president of a small land based drilling company.  Conner holds a Bachelor of Science degree Petroleum Engineering from Louisiana State University.
