Lafayette, La. - The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement’s Safety Incident Investigations Division hosted a meeting in Lafayette, Louisiana, last week to review the role of offshore incident investigations in BSEE’s systematic approach to safety. Highlighted at the meeting was BSEE’s emphasis on ensuring that all reportable incidents receive some level of review. The data obtained from investigations will be analyzed by BSEE to identify safety-related trends in order to prevent future incidents.
BSEE investigates a broad range of offshore incidents including fatalities, serious injuries, environmental spills, and regulatory non-compliance. These investigations involve interviews with witnesses, as well as prompt production and preservation of documents, data and other evidence. The ultimate goal of BSEE’s incident investigations is to improve safety and environmental stewardship by learning from incidents.
