OTC Day Four Wrap-Up

Today, BSEE Staff met with Houston-area students and teachers and participated in two panel discussions on safety and environmental management systems (SEMS) at the Offshore Technology Conference.

BSEE Chief of Offshore Regulatory Programs Doug Morris started the day with a BSEE panel discussion with Susan Dwarnick and Stan Kaczmarek. The panel provided an update on recent SEMS activities, current opportunities, and challenges and expectations for the future. Director Salerno followed in the afternoon with a SEMS panel discussion with the Center for Offshore Safety's Chalie Williams and Rear Admiral Paul Thomas of the U.S. Coast Guard. the panel discussed how BSEE and the Coast Guard are working together to improve the effectiveness of SEMS in addition to providing insight on the evolution of expectations and priorities for 2015.

BSEE staff also participated in the Offshore Technology Conference's Energy Education Institute. BSEE staff met with Houston-area classroom teachers to discuss offshore safety. In addition, the BSEE booth was a destination for students attending the conference as part of the high school student STEM Event. Each year approximately 200 high school math and science students see firsthand the exciting opportunities in offshore oil and gas. Students participate in hands-on energy exploration experiments provided by the U.S. National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project, meet government and industry professionals, and tour the latest state-of-the-art technology exhibits in a scavenger hunt.​​
