Description

The objective was to study the potentially hazardous effects of Arctic (cold weather) operations on the integrity of steel weldments for Arctic structures. Fracture toughness of steel weldments are being investigated to determine requirements for verifying structural integrity.

Latest progress update

Complete. Fracture toughness tests were completed on five different geometrical crack configurations. Tests were conducted to determine the effects of different crack depths to specimen width ratios and to different crack depths to thickness ratios. Temperatures were varied from -120oC to room temperature.
