The range of oil products transported through, explored for, and produced in U.S. waters has increased dramatically over the last two decades. With these increases, the potential for spills of new materials, in new locations, or in severe climates brings into question the efficacy of traditional cleanup and spill response options. To support BSEE's mission towards promoting safety and protecting the marine environment, CNA synthesized the current state of knowledge on the relationship between the range of oil properties and spill response options to establish a baseline and aid in developing a road map for future research and technical development.
Upon completing the literature review, CNA summarized the findings concerning the state of knowledge and key knowledge gaps in a report provided to BSEE. CNA also provided a searchable database of articles and/or abstracts and links.
This project has been completed. The final report is posted below.
