Description

The objective was to conduct an assessment of the operational and environmental factors associated with using chemical dispersants to treat oil spills from MMS-regulated OCS facilities. The report for the Gulf of Mexico was received in December 2000.

Latest progress update

Projected started October, 1999. A meeting was held in the Gulf of Mexico office in December, 1999. Dispersant data was gathered and presented in a status report in March 2000. The draft report was also reviewed by industry for comment. The final report for the Gulf of Mexico is complete. A similar assessment will take place for California Marine spills. The kick off meeting was held June 6th in the POCSR. Representatives from OSPR, NOAA, EPA, and USCG attended the meeting. The proposed spill scenarios were developed.
