Description

This is a Joint Industry Project (JIP). To determine the state-of-the-art of underwater wet welding and how the technology can be advanced by the developmental program. This will be done by making welds with the best combination of experimental electrode, optimum multiple temper-bead technique, and power source/auxiliary equipment.

Latest progress update

Complete. Twelve flux coating compositions were designed for testing on two core rods. Experimental electrodes were used to perform multiple pass welds in 33 feet of water. Tests performed on the welds included bend testing, hardness measurements, chemical analysis, and X-ray radiography. Four welds were selected for further testing. The weld data was carefully analyzed for better understanding of the interaction between flux ingredients and weld properties.
