Project to provide facilitation for the break-out sessions of the Offshore Hurricane Readiness & Recovery Conference and prepare a report capturing the findings, issues, and opportunities to improve that are identified by the conference.

Latest progress update

The Offshore Hurricane Readiness & Recovery Conference, co-sponsored by MMS, was held July 26-27, 2005 in Houston, Texas. The conference brought industry and government together to share and learn from the experiences of Hurricane Ivan to improve future performance and reliability of offshore operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

The first day agenda included a series of presentations and panel discussions on Hurricane Ivan experiences and topics including:

Performance of Drilling Rigs, Production Facilities and Pipelines Best Practices Sharing for Readiness Planning Metocean Geotechnical Conditions in Hurricane Ivan Best Practices Sharing for Readiness Planning

The second day agenda included three simultaneous break-out sessions on:

Drilling Rigs Platform/Production Facilities Pipelines

and included:

Presentations on the observed impacts Identifying key observations and lessons learned Identifying opportunities to improve relative to: Technology Design practices Operational practices Regulations and standards

OTRC provided facilitation for the break-out sessions of the Offshore Hurricane Readiness & Recovery Conference to help identify and capture of key observations, lessons learned, and identification of opportunities for improvement. The final report, documenting conference activities, reports, and findings, is expected to be provided to MMS in January 2006 and made available to the public by mid-February 2006.
