The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement participated in the Clean Pacific Conference in Long Beach, Calif. This is the Pacific Region's largest oil spill prevention and response event, bringing together operators, responders and regulators to discuss regulatory, preparedness and response issues. Members of BSEE's Pacific Region office and Oil Spill Response Division participated in this year's conference.
While at Clean Pacific, BSEE personnel participated in an expert panel discussions on advancing technologies and presented an overview of the current federal offshore regulatory system. BSEE personnel also met with state and local regulators in addition to several operators to discuss emerging issues in the Pacific OCS region.
“BSEE's Pacific Region has a great appreciation for the beautiful and sensitive coastal and marine environment in the Pacific. We are dedicated to ensuring that all offshore oil and gas operations in Pacific waters are conducted according to our standards and requirements so that accidents and spills can be prevented,” said BSEE's Pacific Region Director, Jaron Ming. “Events such as Clean Pacific, foster collaboration between federal, state, local and industry representatives to help us enhance our planning, preparation, technology and communication should a spill occur, better enabling us to protect these valuable resources.'
BSEE continues to be active in oil spill response, research and preparedness on the west coast. BSEE recently met with other regulators to review the preparedness of an oil spill removal organization in southern California and is moving ahead with national guidance for oil spill response planning and preparedness while working closely with the Regional Response Teams and Area Committees along the Pacific coast.
